Obituary

Foreword: For those of us who have had the privilege of being part of this ever-growing deep-sea community for many years, it is truly wonderful to see how the hard work of our colleagues is built upon over the decades.

So many things have changed in terms of new technologies and enhanced international collaborations but still we often refer to the work of our predecessors in order to thoroughly understand our deep-ocean life.

Here we celebrate
those who have worked before us to lay the foundations of our work today
we thank them for their life-long dedication to ocean exploration,
those who have shared their passion
those who contributed to the emergence of so many careers
making many of us ambassadors of the deep ocean,

a dedication that many of us share.
