Sign On Letter to Support Protection of Deep-Sea from Trawling off US West Coast

[From the INDEEP mailing list]

Andrew Thurber (Oregon State University) has been collaborating with the Pew Environmental Trust in their efforts to urge the Pacific Fishery Management Council to enact an amendment that would preemptively close waters off of the US West Coast to commercial trawling in depths greater than 3500m. Specifically, they have drafted a “Scientist Sign On Letter” that will be presented at the next council meeting and are looking for scientists to sign this letter in support of the amendment.

The text of the letter is attached and scientists can either sign through emailing Andrew directly (athurber@coas.oregonstate.edu) or by going to the following page and filling out their information.

Andrew will also be available at the DOSI meeting on Sunday as well as the DSBS if anyone would like to discuss this.

All signatures must be received by Sept. 1.

Thank you.
Maria
