Our next webinar in the deep-sea series will be on November 18, 2015 at 9am U.S. Pacific time, 12pm U.S. Eastern time, 5pm London time and 6pm Paris time. We will feature Lisa Levin, a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego in CA, USA. She also is a founding leader of the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative, dedicated to multisectoral environment management and conservation of the deep ocean. Her research targets hypoxia and climate change impacts on deep-sea, continental margin ecosystems. She is especially fond of methane seeps and oxygen minimum zones.

The Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI), established in 2013, seeks to integrate science, technology, policy, law and economics to advise on ecosystem-based management of resource use in the deep-ocean and strategies to maintain the integrity of deep-ocean ecosystems within and beyond national jurisdiction. This webinar, intended to update and engage new participants, will describe the rationale, strategy and future plans for DOSI working groups, addressing issues ranging from deep seabed mining and tailings disposal to fisheries, climate change and technology innovation.
