The University of Limerick are looking for a marine microbiologist to join a Marie Curie ITN consortium as a Partner Organisation. The consortium is looking at the processing of dairy waste for the recovery of nutrients for fertilisers, and there is a particular problem associated with the lipid-heavy fraction. Currently there are few microbes that are effectively used to break down this fraction of waste; as a result the waste is mixed with a co-substrate and spread back on the land. We would like to know if there are any marine microbiologists working on the breakdown of lipids in the marine environment – perhaps associated with whale falls.
