Call for marine microbiologist working on lipid breakdown

ul_logo

The University of Limerick are looking for a marine microbiologist to join a Marie Curie ITN consortium as a Partner Organisation.  The consortium is looking at the processing of dairy waste for the recovery of nutrients for fertilisers, and there is a particular problem associated with the lipid-heavy fraction. Currently there are few microbes that are effectively used to break down this fraction of waste; as a result the waste is mixed with a co-substrate and spread back on the land. We would like to know if there are any marine microbiologists working on the breakdown of lipids in the marine environment – perhaps associated with whale falls.  If you, or anyone you know, are working in this area and would be interested in working with us, please get in touch ASAP with abigail.pattenden@dptc.ie.
