Cruise Blog: Exploring seamonts in South-East Atlantic

[From the INDEEP mailing list]

Dear Colleagues,

Odd Aksel (IMR, Norway) is currently leading a cruise aboard R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen exploring seamounts in the South Atlantic in the high seas off South Africa, Namibia and Angola. The objective is to analyse occurrence and abundance of benthopelagic fish and sessile epibenthos in selected ‘existing fishing areas’ and areas closed to fishing within the SEAFO CA (South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation Convention Area). The cruise is a contribution to SEAFO resulting from a co-operation between SEAFO, the EAF-Nansen project, and the FAO Deep-sea programme.
