Workshop: Marine Disposal of Terrestrial Mine Tailings

[From the INDEEP mailing list]

If you are interested in Submarine Tailings Disposal and Deep-Sea Tailings Placement, please read on.

The DOSI WG on DSTP has joined forces with the IMO and the Chilean Programme on DSTPin the organisation of a cross-sector workshop to discuss the current nature and scale of global DSTP including mining practices, environmental impacts, existing regulations, what we know and what we don’t know and ways forward.  The conference aims primarily to increase the scientific understanding of impacts on the marine environment of deep-sea tailings placement in light of the growing interest in this form of disposal.

This workshop will be held 10-12 June 2015, Lima, Peru.

If you are interested in attending this meeting and would like to receive further details and the draft agenda, please contact (asap):

Dr Eva Ramirez-Llodra: eva.ramirez@niva.no

Keep in mind that although the workshop is open to all interested parties, capacity is limited to around 100 and so we would be particularly interested to hear from those with direct experience of STD/DSTP or with a keen interest in pursuing this topic in future.

With kind regards,

Maria & Eva
