Gordon Research Conference on Climate Engineering, funding available, application deadline April 20

[From the INDEEP mailing list]

Dear Deep-Sea Colleagues with an interest in Climate:

Given that observations and models are providing growing evidence of the influence of climatic effects on our deep ocean ecosystems, some of you may be interested in this conference on Climate Engineering:

“Dear colleague,
We would like to invite you to attend the Gordon Research Conference on Climate Engineering, to be held July 23-28, in Newry, Maine, http://grc.org/programs.aspx?id=17348 .  This conference will be a great opportunity to discuss the latest science, plan future research collaboration, and be involved in future directions for geoengineering research.  Please see the website for the list of invited speakers and discussion leaders.  We invite you to attend and present a poster.  Please apply at the website.  The deadline is June 25.
We are in the fortunate position to have funds to support travel for a number of people to attend this conference.  We welcome your application for travel support (see details below).  We will give priority to students, early career scientists (within 5 years of a Ph.D.), and scientists from developing countries, but should have funding for additional scientists.  To give time for you to make plans, we have established a deadline of April 20 for your application.
To apply for funding, please send an email to Doug MacMartin at macmardg@cds.caltech.edu<mailto:macmardg@cds.caltech.edu>, with an attachment, all in one pdf file, with the following information:
Name
Address
Email
Years since your Ph.D. (negative if you are a student)
Your past participation in GeoMIP
Your plans for future participation in GeoMIP
Title of the poster you will present
Budget for total expenses, including registration fee and travel
The amount of support you are requesting from GeoMIP
Please submit this application by April 20.  It is not necessary to register for the conference at this moment, and with an announcement of your grant, we will provide information on registration and travel.

If you come from outside the U.S., because most of the funding is from U.S. government funds, you may be required to fly on a U.S. flag carrier.  You will be able to make your own travel arrangements or use one of our travel agents.  With your funding decision, we will provide more information.
This application for funding does NOT constitute applying to attend the conference itself.  Attendance must be approved by the organizers.  The deadline for application to attend the Gordon Research Conference is June 25.  You must apply to attend at the website, http://grc.org/programs.aspx?id=17348 .
If you have any questions, please let us know.
