Another excellent deep-sea video for coffee break! This insightful documentary entitled “Pathways to the Abyss” was just released by BOEM. It showcases deepwater marine habitats of two mid-Atlantic Canyons located 100 miles offshore Virginia and Maryland. Research findings from the study are significant and depict a biologically rich region that had not been fully explored in the past. It includes impressive footage of methane seep communities, cold-water corals, fish and more. The video includes interviews with scientists who participated in research cruises to the Norfolk and Baltimore Canyons from 2011 to 2013. BOEM, NOAA and USGS funded the research under the National Oceanographic Partnership Program.
