But it is fixed now . Hi everyone 00:08:45 Elisabetta Manea: Hello all! Elisabetta from CNR ISMAR / CNRS Sorbonne...Sorry but I have problems in using both the video and the microphone...but I can here and see you! 00:08:50 Franck Lejzerowicz: Hi Ana - we are still waiting for more to connect before getting into the AGM matter 00:09:25 Alexis Weinnig: Hello everyone! We will give a few minutes for people to get logged on 00:10:35 Stephanie Bush: Yes, suddenly it’s now “Long live the King” 00:11:31 Franck Lejzerowicz: Hi Elisabetta - great that you can follow discussion - please consider using the chat if you have questions/comments 00:12:04 Elisabetta Manea: yes thank you Franck! 00:18:25 Alexis Weinnig: Please find the poll (open until Sept 16th) to vote on approval of the Financial Report here: https://dsbsoc.wildapricot.org/Sys/Poll/37545 00:18:31 Chris Yesson: its a legal requirement for uk charity to keep reserves for a year of operation 00:18:52 Franck Lejzerowicz: Report is here: http://dsbsoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Deep-Seas-Biology-Society-2021-Accounts-Finals.pdf 00:20:15 Chris Yesson: yay from me. kudos to neus for sorting out the accounts! 00:20:29 Franck Lejzerowicz: Janel Ferguson-Roberts (Hi Janet): Twitter 00:20:49 Franck Lejzerowicz: Ariane Buckenmeyer: Instagram 00:21:32 Janet Ferguson-Roberts: Hi all 👋 00:23:04 Alexis Weinnig: If you are a more established researcher and you would like to be a mentor - please reach out to Pierre or Katie, we can always use more mentors! 00:28:14 Adelaide Rhodes: Congratulations! 00:36:47 Adelaide Rhodes: Is there a list we can make that does not require this survey? Basically it falls into a few categories, right? Seeing/hearing issues, quietness needs, and diet? 00:37:29 Michelle Taylor: Yes, there is an independent form that can be filled out 00:37:53 Michelle Taylor: I'll ask for the link to be circulated 🙂 00:39:06 Franck Lejzerowicz: (BTW I forgot to activate the live transcript for anyone in need) 00:40:31 Adelaide Rhodes: got it, thanks 00:41:26 Janet Ferguson-Roberts: That's a good idea 00:41:35 Michelle Taylor: Great idea! 00:42:42 Steven Haddock: Agree with Olívia's suggestion. 00:43:25 LIsa Levin: Are you interested in learning about member first (native) languages and time zones to think further about ways to enhance inclusivity. 00:43:52 Erin Easton: Thanks Olivia! 00:43:58 Franck Lejzerowicz: Adaptive billing (to currencies) would be great and could be submitting to a poll - thanks Olivia 00:44:14 Erin Easton: Yes, Lisa, that information would be good as well. Thanks for the suggestions 00:45:23 Franck Lejzerowicz: Indeed, it would actually be excellent to support local events in local languages (e.g. seminar series in swahili 🙂 ) 00:45:57 Cherisse Du Preez: I'm taking the opportunity to update my DSBS profile and (only because we're making suggestions): how about the ability to enter the multiple Organizations and Professional Roles (since most of us are hat racks... in that we wear way too many hats). 00:46:32 Alexis Weinnig: That is a very good idea Cherisse! 00:46:34 Erin Easton: Thanks Cherisse. We can add that to the list 00:47:19 Adelaide Rhodes: Can we see a list of the conferences and dates somehow? 00:47:24 Michelle Taylor: @Cherisse - great idea and could come up later with the possiblilty of expanding member profiles 00:48:41 Pierre Methou: The list of conference is already on the website, we just need to update the dates 00:49:23 Franck Lejzerowicz: @Adelaide: the www.dsbsoc.org website provide link to conferences supported by DSBSoc - we can update this with more conferences. 00:51:20 Alexis Weinnig: If you have suggestions for plenary speakers please feel free to contact Michelle, Alexis (me), or Prof Qian directly 00:52:06 Franck Lejzerowicz: Michelle: president@dsbsoc.org; Alexis: secretary@dsbsoc.org, Prof Qian: conferences@dsbsoc.org 00:53:26 Elisabetta Manea: Sorry maybe I lost this info...Will it be possible to follow the symposium also online as the last one? 00:53:28 Franck Lejzerowicz: The local committee commits to a very generous offer for DSBS17 🤩 00:54:05 Elisabetta Manea: that's great thanks! 00:55:29 Cherisse Du Preez: Is the plan for the DSBS to continue hybrid conferences for the foreseeable future (or to return to in person)? 00:56:50 Cherisse Du Preez: 👍 00:56:50 Erin Easton: @Cherisse - I think we will continue to poll the community as well to see what the community wishes 00:57:53 Franck Lejzerowicz: We are gaining experience with organizing hybrid conferences: https://doi.org/10.3389/fmars.2022.902772 01:02:45 Cherisse Du Preez: Thanks @Franck. I'm happy to hear DSBS will keep polling. We're facing the challenge of upper managers (the check writers) having an easy opt out when it comes to supporting travel and the important "face-to-face" experience, especially for early career researchers. 01:04:34 Michelle Taylor: @cherisse - worrying isn't it. It was such a pleasure to bump into people over coffee once again this week! If people want those interactions they should be available 01:05:41 Michelle Taylor: I sign up to do it, I've been slow! 01:05:45 Michelle Taylor: 🙂 01:07:28 Erin Easton: btw...Please send any other comments and feedback to the Society Trustees: http://dsbsoc.org/about-2/contact-us/ 01:07:36 Franck Lejzerowicz: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L3oqYdaBHDKYZ-K4FEjZHOTIjQL9KC_T_lDHtU1aNzo/edit#gid=0 01:07:52 Megan Davies: I love that idea for networking! 01:08:08 Erin Easton: For example, any issues or suggestions with member profile demographic questions, please contact me at membership@dsbsoc.org 01:08:57 Erin Easton: If you want to provide feedback anonymously, we will make sure to resend the link to the anonymous poll in an upcoming email 01:09:35 Erin Easton: I should also note that the membership platform, allows individuals to opt out or in of the profiles 01:10:11 Olívia Pereira: I think that would be super cool! I was talking to students that are looking for grad school and postdoc opportunities, and we actually talked about how having something like this would be super helpful! 01:10:39 Franck Lejzerowicz: DOERs: https://www.deepoceanobserving.org/pages/doers 01:10:50 Megan Davies: We just did a Story map with the DOERs program and it’s been great to see whew everyone is located 01:11:09 Michelle Taylor: Exactly Megan! I want to reach out to DOERS to find out more 01:11:11 Michelle Taylor: 🙂 01:11:49 Megan Davies: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/6b70811732884162b35da102b5a23fab 01:12:40 Megan Davies: Yeah that would be amazing to have more crossover, Michelle 01:18:23 Cherisse Du Preez: Big thanks to the DSBS "smooth operating machines"! 👏 01:28:33 Cherisse Du Preez: Journal ideas: The paper-reviewing system is crashing, right (a crazy bottleneck finding reviewers)? If we go this route, could we do something different with reviewers (e.g., min. number of reviews, some accountability, or benefit)? Something to get the community supporting timely, not just inexpensive, option. Another idea: could there be a more expensive publishication option (don't laugh), so those with money can offset other's publications (think "carbon credit" structure). 01:28:42 Megan Davies: I have to run but thanks so much for all the hard work!! 01:33:44 Alexis Weinnig: Thanks everyone for attending! Please reach out about anything 01:33:46 Adelaide Rhodes: thanks! Friday! 01:33:48 Olívia Pereira: Thank you!!
