Call for Environmental and Biodiveristy Data for MPAs in the Mid-Atlantic

[From the INDEEP mailing list]

A recent workshop in the Azores began deliberations about a mid-Atlantic Ridge and Rio Grande Rise strategic environmental management plan (SEMPIA). Telmo Morato and Pat Halpin have teamed up to begin compiling environmental and biological biodiversity data (for the water column and seabed) in areas shown in red on the map below. This information will be used to plan and define marine protected areas.  If you have data, papers and other forms of unpublished information that you would be willing to contribute in support of deep-sea management, please contact  Telmo Morato (t.morato@gmail.com<mailto:t.morato@gmail.com>)  The ultimate goal is to recommend an environmental management plan to the International Seabed Authority, but this will require further compilation and a number of additional workshops.
