RV Falkor Hydrothermal Vent livestream – April 29, 2016

UPDATE: if you missed the Fiji deep-sea hydrothermal vent education Live Dive event on April 29th, the recording is now available online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiEGIqwciVA&feature=youtu.be

Schmidt Ocean Institute, the Fish-Eye Project and other partners are conducting a live-dive event this Friday April 29th 12pm Pacific Time. We will be joining the RV Falkor as it explores hydrothermal vents off Fiji and are hosting a link up with a group of 40-50 high school children visiting University of Victoria, BC. The event will be broadcast live, is free, with no registration required, and anyone can join as long as they have access to the internet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJpCJ83F-yw.

For the people able to join us, it will be a fantastic opportunity to view hydrothermal vent communities on the seafloor, 2000 m below the sea surface. There will be the chance to ask the scientists questions in real time and to be some of the first people to see these fascinating environments.

You can find more details, including the teaching material we have been developing for schools in Canada at http://www.fisheyeproject.org/education/.

The live dive will also be recorded and made available for those that can’t make it.

We hope you can join us on the 29th! Please feel free to distribute to any other interested parties.
