Explore the Exotic Deep Sea In The Southern California Backyard

Join the RV Nautilus and its ROV Hercules in an exploration of the diverse habitats found in the deep sea off of Southern California. Between July 27 and August 10, 2015, scientists and communicators from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, Harvard University, and the Ocean Exploration Trust will plumb the depths of the ocean — visiting methane seeps, canyons, vents, a dead whale, life in the oxygen minimum zone, and much more. The expedition includes the Del Mar Seep recently discovered by Scripps graduate students (https://scripps.ucsd.edu/news/1779).

You can view the scene in real time (day or night) through the eyes of the ROV by joining us online at Nautiluslive.org.

Scientists will talk about the ecosystems and you will have the opportunity to ask them questions submitted online.
