Last week, Maria Baker sent around this photo posted to social media, asking if anyone could ID the blob fish species: https://mobile.twitter.com/buddingrose418/status/596330089358479361/photo/1
Thanks to a number of deep-sea fish folk out there – we can now confirm that the general opinion is that this specimen is in fact a Smooth Lumpsucker (somewhat distorted by gravity on land), likely Aptocyclus ventricosus.
