BEM 2017 Call for Abstracts

Abstract submission and early registration is now available on the   BEMS website (www.bemsociety.org). The 46th Annual Benthic Ecology Meeting is being held jointly with the Southeastern Estuarine Research Society in Myrtle Beach, April 12-16, 2017 hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The meeting theme is “Sustainable oceans in theory and practice.” Dalhousie University’s Dr. Jon Grant, NSERC-Cooke Industrial Research Chair in Sustainable Aquaculture, is this year’s invited speaker. Plans include special sessions honoring “The Legacy of Robert Paine” and “Top-down Effects of Mark Bertness.”

The meeting is taking place at the Myrtle Beach Sheraton Convention Center, blocks from both the beach and Broadway at the Beach, a major area entertainment complex. April is a great time to visit Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. To help meeting participants take advantage of the season, the Sheraton generously is extending their very reasonable conference room rates for three days before and after the official meeting. A number of field trips to North Inlet and Waties Island are planned for the Wednesday before sessions start. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the local Cubs A Affiliate, also are in town and a group outing to see the future Jake Arrieta and Kris Bryant is planned.
